Welcome to the 14th National Snow Seminar or “Pyryn päivä”, arranged 29.-30.10.2026 in Sodankylä in FMI Arctic Space Centre. The seminar welcomes presentations covering a wide range of snow and cryosphere related topics, such as scientific snow and Arctic/polar studies, snow as a water resource, societal aspects of snow and winter, snow measurement methods and technologies, and snow-related arts and sports. The seminar is bilingual, and presentations can be both in English of Finnish. This year, the seminar theme is “Snow in a changing climate“. The keynote speaker is prof. emer. Matti Leppäranta.

Registration and abstract submission
Registration and abstract submission is open using the link below until 2.10.2026. After registration you will receive a link to pay the registration fee 75 € (includes dinner and coffee). Due to the capacity of the location, the number of participants is limited.
The seminar welcomes both oral and poster presentations in English or Finnish. Note that there is limited space available for posters.

Travel and accommodation
Travel instructions and information about FMI Arctic Space Centre. The address of the venue is Tähteläntie 62, Sodankylä.
Accommodation is available e.g. in Hotelli Sodankylä and Hotelli Karhu. Transportation between Sodankylä centre and the Arctic Space Centre can be arranged by FMI. Please indicate your need for transportation in the registration form or contact the organizing committee.
